Southampton Harbour Hotel - Review.

Ever since we heard this hotel was being constructed, we were eager to visit and last weekend the opportunity finally presented itself. We drove down for a one night stay and it's fair to say the only true disappointment was that we weren't staying longer!

Upon arrival, the site and its surrounding docklands are still very much under construction but the finished article is sure to present an abundance of dining and entertainment experiences for all. Check-in was very good, the receptionist was extremely helpful and personally escorted us to our room, which was a stunning third floor revelation.

As expected due to the age of the building, the room was flawless with a wonderful marble bathroom with rainfall shower, the largest hotel bed I’ve ever seen and a huge array of mini-bar options topped off with complimentary sherry and gin on arrival - nice touch.

We spent the afternoon relaxing on the rooftop bar 'HaBar on 6th' enjoying the rare autumn sunshine whilst the massive cruise ships set sail in the distance, truly a relaxing vibe and one I will certainly be looking to replicate in the summer.

Prior to our evening meal we enjoyed the leisure facilities and managed to enjoy the pool all to ourselves. It's a functionable pool but I suspect one which will soon feel crowded once the hotel is 100% operational. The Jacuzzi however was the best I’ve ever experienced and the relaxation room was a welcome addition.

For dinner, we opted to return to HaBar instead of the more formal dining experience on the ground floor. The bar was very busy and clearly becoming a local hub as well but the atmosphere was good with live DJ and the food was very tasty - wood fired pizzas at very reasonable pricing.

After the best night’s sleep in a hotel for as long as I can remember we checked out effortlessly and our car was waiting in the front entrance for the trip home. Overall, the hotel is immaculate and if they can maintain that level going forward it will soon become an exclusive luxury setting I’m sure. The service from the front of house and housekeeping teams was brilliant, very efficient and friendly. The F&B areas are clearly still a work in progress, lots of staff but seemingly unsure of who is doing what. 'Less is more' could be apt in these areas, but I’m sure these are minor issues which will iron out with time and experience.

Will I return? 100%. This is a hotel worth the trip for in itself. Throw in the surrounding area and ease of access to local points of interest and this truly is a hidden gem of a property - one which will only go from strength to strength in future!
