The Great House At Sonning - Reviewed.

Situated in the picturesque village of Sonning on Thames, home to A-listers such as George Clooney, The Great House is a hidden gem partnered with the boutique restaurant chain, The Coppa Club. An increasing popular destination, this quirky property was one to try!

The room was in the main house with a lovely river view and modern amenities beautifully complementing the fashionable decor. The in-room literature and layout was simply superb and made for quite the 'wow' factor on first inspection.

With a beautiful spring day to enjoy, we enjoyed a scenic riverside walk before a couple of drinks in the river facing deckchairs and then had a very enjoyable dinner in The Coppa Club which never disappoints, even when packed to the rafters as it was. King prawns followed by tagliatelle and washed down with a wonderful glass of Pablo Malbec.

The nights sleep was honestly one of the very best i have had - the emperor bed so large you could have fit four people in it comfortably and despite being situated by a main road, one of the most silent, peaceful evenings i've ever enjoyed in a hotel.

The bathroom was just as luxurious with a wonderful rainfall shower and brilliant toiletries, nestled in a small but cosy corner of the room with a simplistic but pleasing layout.

The only downside was when attempting to have room service breakfast. The room service menu stipulated that breakfast was available from February but when we rang down, the receptionist informed us that they weren't in fact offering it until April and therefore we couldn't order (despite it being April!!). A lack of breakfast was the only downside and it does seem like their office team could do with some further training, but the on floor service was simply superb, as were the facilities.

We will definately be returning but unlike most places where 'booking direct' is promised the best deals, next time we will be using Secret Escapes who undercut the offer we had direct. The onsite team wouldn't even honour the rate found elsewhere which is a shame as they will only end up paying commissions on bookings from third parties.

All in all though, it is an idyllic spot for a weekend getaway and with such a wonderful riverside village on its doorstep, it's easy to see how its reputation continues to grow in stock.
